The Sahajanand Laser Technology SUSHRUTA Innovation Award (SIA) is a nationwide competition in India (With special reference to Gujarat) for the most innovative Medical Device Idea / Prototype by the students of Biomedical Engineering.

To strengthen the innovation ecosystem, Department of Science & Technology (DST) has initiated a project - “Promoting Innovative Clusters (PIC) in India”, among others, in the Life Sciences Clusters of Gujarat.

Accordingly, with the support of Project PIC and the Gujarat based innovative company “Sahajanand Laser Technology Ltd”; the National Bio-Medical Engineering Society (NBES), Ahmedabad is pleased to announce the Sahajanand Laser Technology - SUSHRUTA Innovation Award (SIA) 2011-12, an All India Competition for Biomedical Engineering Students, along with a special category for the Bio-Medical Engineering Institutes and Medical Colleges of Gujarat State.

The unique feature of the competition is that students need not come with new ideas. They can build on the prior work done in the Institute. 14 teams will get 3 months' time and grant of Rs 40,000/- for each team to improve the existing idea / project . The selected groups will be invited to participate in an International Exhibition on Medical Technology and Equipment.
